FAQs

Common questions when choosing a company

What is the best company to claim flight compensation in Spain?

It depends on your priorities; on cost, AviFly charges 15% + VAT, so from €600 of compensation you receive €491.10, against €418.50 with Reclamador (25% + VAT) or €390 with AirHelp (35% including VAT). Flightright charges 20% to 30% + VAT depending on the case, and AirAdvisor 30% including VAT. AviFly is based in Vic (Barcelona) and started operating in 2025. AirHelp, Reclamador and Flightright have more than 10 years in the sector, and Reclamador also handles banking and inheritance claims.

How much does Reclamador charge to claim for a flight?

Reclamador charges 25% + VAT on compensation recovered out of court, plus an extra 15% + VAT if the case goes to court, according to the terms published on its website (September 2026). From €600 of compensation you would receive €418.50. It is a Madrid-based company that also handles claims in other sectors.

How much does AirHelp charge in Spain?

AirHelp charges 35% of the compensation including VAT, plus an extra 15% if legal action is needed, according to the price list published on its website (updated 11 August 2026). From €600 of compensation you would receive €390; with AviFly (15% + VAT), €491.10. AirHelp is an international platform based outside Spain.

Why do fees vary so much between platforms?

Each company sets its own fee: with VAT added, the five platforms compared charge between 18.15% (AviFly, 15% + VAT) and 36.3% (Flightright at its top rate, 30% + VAT). Several add a surcharge if the case goes to court: AirHelp an extra 15%, Reclamador an extra 15% + VAT, and AirAdvisor up to 50% if external lawyers are involved. At AviFly, court proceedings cost 30% + VAT. To compare fairly, always check whether a percentage includes VAT or has VAT added on top.

What is the difference between a specialist and a multi-sector platform?

A specialist platform handles air passenger claims only; a multi-sector platform also handles claims in other areas. AviFly, AirHelp, Flightright and AirAdvisor focus on flights; Reclamador also handles banking and inheritance claims, among others. If you only have a flight claim, compare the fee and terms above all; if you already use a company for other matters, a single provider may be more convenient.

Can I claim myself without using a company?

Yes: you can claim directly from the airline for free and, if it rejects the claim or does not reply within a month, file a complaint with AESA (the Spanish aviation authority) or go to court. In Spain, you do not need a lawyer or court representative for claims of up to €2,000 (Articles 23 and 31 of the Civil Procedure Act). A company handles the whole process in exchange for a fee; AviFly only charges if you get your money. The generally accepted time limit to claim in Spain is 5 years (Article 1964 of the Spanish Civil Code).

How long does an EU261 claim take?

There is no fixed timeframe: it depends on how quickly the airline replies and, if the case goes to court, on the court. Out-of-court claims are usually resolved sooner; court proceedings can take more than a year. This applies to every platform, because it does not depend on which company you choose.
