When an airline cancels your flight, Regulation CE 261/2004 grants you three fundamental rights: first, financial compensation between €250 and €600 depending on the flight distance, provided the notice is less than 14 days. Second, a full ticket refund within 7 days maximum, or alternative transport to your destination. Third, assistance during the wait: food, drinks, communication and accommodation if necessary.
You won't receive financial compensation if the airline proves the cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances: severe weather conditions, air traffic control restrictions, security alerts or acts of terrorism.
